| International
Student Guide.
Students are recommended
to make sure you have all the necessary documentation for
immigration and enrolment. When you arrive in Thailand you
may be interviewed by immigration and health officials and
we recommend that you keep the following documentation in
your hand luggage:
|
|
A valid passport |
|
|
Your visa and/or other entry clearance documents, if
required |
 |
|
Travel documents |
 |
|
Health clearance certificates, as required |
|
|
A letter of Acceptance from Shinawatra University |
|
|
A letter confirming that you have sufficient money to
pay for your fees, accommodation and subsistence during
your stay. This could be copies of recent bank statements,
proof of scholarship or a sponsors letter |
|
|
Your original examination certificates or certified
true copies |
|
|
University joining instructions |
|
|
Enough cash for the first few days (see below) |
Make sure that all the
documents you have are consistent with each other. For example,
some students may wish to be know by a western name or a
nickname. If, however, documents from the university carry
your western name or nickname while your passport and visa
carry your full name, this could cause problems and delays
at Immigration as the Officers will need to establish that
both names actually refer to the same person!
Insurance
Students are strongly
advised to purchase personal health insurance. You are advised
to either insure your possessions before leaving the country
or processing at the Shinawatra University.
Immigration
Visa application
Applications should be accompanied by:
|
|
A valid passport |
|
|
Two recent passport sized photographs |
 |
|
Non refundable entry clearance fee (paid in local currency) |
 |
|
Relevant diplomas or educational certificates that you
hold |
|
|
A letter from your intended place of study confirming
that you have been accepted on a full-time course, that
you fulfil the academic requirements and stating the charges
for that course |
|
|
Evidence of government scholarship, if applicable. |
Prospective students
If you want to visit
Thailand to compare different institutions you will need to
explain this clearly to the Immigration Officer at the port
of entry. If the Immigration Officer is satisfied, you may
be granted leave to entry for up to 3 months
Arrival
All passengers arriving
in Thailand are checked through Immigration Control and you
need to know what the regulations are for your nationality.
For example, an express channel exists for ASEAN member citizens.
Changing status
You should never try
to enter as a visitor if you intend becoming a student. The
prodedure to change your status is cumbersome and will take
up a lot of your time. In order to change status you are required
to have at least 30 days valid on your present visa. Several
documents are required from both the University and you, the
production of which will take time. Therefore, we strongly
advise that you enter with proper visa (Non-Immigrant-ED).
Traveling outside
Thailand
Non-Thai students who
travel out of Thailand during their period of study should
obtain a re-entry visa before departure, unless they hold
an official passport or are citizens of a country exempted
from this rule.
Every time you go abroad
you must check whether you require a visa to enter the country
you intend to visit.
Before you travel abroad, you should:
|
|
Check your passport is not due to expire while you are
away (you normally required to have at least 6 months
of validity) |
|
|
Carry with you on your journey a letter from the University
confirming that you are a student registered on full-time
course and evidence that you can support yourself (e.g.
bank statements, sponsors letter). |
